Trending Topiks: #haveuever

But what if hip hop had died? What if hip hop disappeared? What if Kanye never made his Bush comment during Katrina (sidenote: there is absolutely no reason for Kanye to apologize for his statements)? What if Nas hadn't joined the rally against Fox? What if Jay-Z wasn't doing interviews with Warren Buffet and Cornel West? What if countless prominent hip hop figures hadn't rallied behind Barack Obama?
Before hip hop was founded, there were disenfranchised people, as well as those that just didn't agree with the powers that be, but their voice was never heard. Their story was never told. What if in modern day, with all of the things that we face now, there was no hip hop to make some of these statements for us? Who would? That's something to think about. So often we write hip hop off because we see a few bad rappers on TV or hear them on the radio, but there is so much more to hip hop. Just like in the cases mentioned above (along with countless others), if nothing else, we can at least say our piece. There are still many injustices and evils surrounding us, and we may not always get the results we want, but I don't think there's any doubt that we're being heard in one way or another. Let's keep that in mind before we write hip hop off for good.
What are your thoughts? What would a world without hip hop today look like? What are some other causes or events that hip hop has made an impact on? Leave your comments and of course you can always e-mail at straightouttahiphop@gmail.com.
Peace.

Big big props for this Truth. Hip Hop as a Kultcha is not dead until the last MC, Graffiti Artist, Breakdancer and DJ ceases to breathe. And even then, Hip Hop will continue living becus it's larger than life. It made us who we are, it made us strong, it made us believe in the power of our Dreams, it is our reason to live. If a few people dishonor this Kultcha, there are millions more underground ones who cherish it and live it. If TV doesn't show real Hip Hop, then REAL Hiphoppas do and if Hip Hop would disappear, then we'd be nothing but zombies walking the streets of our cities. Hip Hop was not born without a reason. It was born to give the oppressed people the power to speak and actually be heard. To speak thru the SONGS of the MCs, the PIECES of the graffiti artists, the SCRATCHES of the DJs and the SPINS and MOVES of the breakers... So no, Hip Hop IS NOT DEAD, in fact, it's more alive than ever!!! Once again, big props to the author. Keep that Hip Hop spirit nurtured. Peace.
