Eminem's Race Keeping Him Out of Top 5?

What's up everybody? Sorry I know it's been a minute since I've posted something. I just been extremely busy with a lot of stuff going on lately. I'm going to let you guys know now that the next couple days (maybe even week or so) the site may be down due to changes, upgrades, additions, etc. that will be going on. Trust me, you guys won't be disappointed. However, in order for this to happen, you MIGHT not be able to view the blogs. I'm not quite sure yet, but just check in periodically because you're not going to have to wait long. If you want, you can follow me on twitter at twitter.com/her_lover and I'll keep you updated with everything that is going on. So I'll let you guys know what's going on with the site, when all the changes are made, and all that good stuff. I'm sure you will really enjoy it.

Anyway, I'll post this for now and if the site is down for a little while, then I'll re-post it when it is back up. So, I was reading this  magazine, in which Eminem graced the cover. Obviously this is  in regard to his comeback and whatnot, but what got my attention was an article in there that stated that the potential reason Eminem wasn't in the top 5 MCs list ever was because he was white. I have to say that I can't really agree with this.

There is no doubt that Eminem is one of the best MCs to ever grace the mic, and putting him in the top 10 gets no arguement for me, but top 5 might be a stretch. It has nothing to do with race, but just (in my opinion) that's not where he deserves to be ranked. To break into the top top 5, there are at least 4 MCs that are probably in 90% of people's top 5. That would include Tupac, Biggie, Jay-Z, and Nas.
The fifth spot (and none of these are in any particular order) usually go to either Rakim or KRS-One. To argue that this list is "wrong" is very difficult. If you want to say that Eminem deserves to be mentioned here, then I would also argue that somebody such as Ice Cube also deserves to be mentioned here.

Now, I don't want anybody to mistake this for me hating on Em because I'm a fan and he definitely is a great talent, but there's not much wiggle room in the top 5. The article mentioned all of the things that he accomplished and reasons that he should be in the top 5, but all of the artists that I mentioned above have contributed something major to the game. Regardless, I can see where the argument is coming from, but the fact of the matter is that it is going to take somebody extraordinary to break into the top 5. Em was close, but it will still take a little more, and I have a feeling that it might not come around for a long time.

What are your thoughts about Em's comeback, though? Are you feeling the new song? I don't think it's too bad. It's back to that "Without Me" feel, but I'm just not really feeling the voice he was using. It's only one song off the album so we'll see what the whole package has in store. And since we're on the subject of the white rappers and albums (lol), I haven't forgotten about the Asher Roth album review. I've just had way too much going on lately, but I'll get it to you asap.

Do you think Eminem's ranking among the elite has been/will be knocked down by the elite due to his race? Does hip hop have a problem with a white rapper being in the top 5? Are you looking forward to the next album? Let me hear it. Comment or e-mail at straightouttahiphop@gmail.com.

Peace.
