Lupe Fiasco & Asher Roth Concert (w/video)
I'm just getting back from an amazing performance by both Asher Roth and Lupe Fiasco. Since I think visual make almost anything better, yall already know that i got some videos for you below so check those out in just a minute. I have The Greenhouse Effect mixtape that Asher, and I think by now we have all seen his "I Love College" video, but other than that I haven't been exposed to him too much. I already knew that he was talented, but I have to admit that he is a true performer. I wasn't sure what to expect when I was going because I knew that a lot of his songs were good, but since his name is still not huge, I wasn't sure how well he would be able to interact with those not as familiar with him. After coming out and rhyming about two versus, he went into performance mode and really captured everybody's attention. He did a lot of talking to the crowd, knowing just what would get them to liven up. Adding a lot of comedy to his performance, Asher really did a good job and I think he has a real bright future. Here he is performing his new hit single, "I Love College."
Lupe, unlike Asher who fills his time on stage with jokes and talking with the crowd, did minimal talking and went through the majority of his hits. He had so much energy from the second he came out on stage. He was moving all over the place, jumping everywhere, running around. His energy really made it easy to get caught up in the performance. He had everybody engaged from beginning to end, only talking when it helped him transition to the next song. Lupe in his own right is a great performance and I think everybody left the concert pleased. You can tell that he really enjoys being up on stage and that he loves the music. Since this is a hip hop blog and hip hop has saved so many lives, below is Lupe performing "Hip-Hop Saved My Life" (sorry for the staggered videos, but I wanted yall to see the whole song).
Before I get out of here, you know I have to leave you with some type of question. But before I do, check out this footage I got from the concert which will help put my question into perspective.
For those who may not have been able to understand, he said that the next album would not be name LupE.N.D. but The Great American Rap Album. Now, given what Lupe said, what do you guys feel about this alleged retirement he had been talking about. From what I just found out, he supposedly will be giving us three more albums, ending with LupE.N.D. Even though he's not retiring after the next one, which a lot of people already suspected, what do you think about him still putting some sort of time limit on his career. A lot of people seem to be doing that lately. Was it Jay-Z's good marketing plan that got everybody thinking they could make some money off of it or are people just getting tired of hip hop? Lupe isn't one to follow others so I doubt that this is just a copy of Jay. I don't know exactly what it is though because after seeing him tonight, it is clear that he still loves the music. So why try to force retirement? Any ideas? Let me hear those as well as let me know if you want any more footage, I have plenty. This was just the appetizers, but I have to hear that yall want some more first. That's it or me. Til next time.
Peace.
