Lauryn Hill - Where is She In the List of All Time Greats?

I was going through my iPod a couple of weeks ago, trying to decide what album I should listen to. I hadn't listened to The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill in a while, so I decided to that day. As I was listening, I started to think, where would I put her amongst the all-time greats? Usually when people discuss this, we hear the usual names of Tupac, B.I.G., Nas, Jay-Z, Rakim, etc. Now, I wouldn't give her a top 5 spot, but how far down do you go before you mention her? You could most definitely argue that she is the best female MC of all-time, competion coming from only those such as MC Lyte and Missy Elliott (and possible Eve).

Although she was great, the number of records she has put out are limited (only two with The Fugees, and one studio album of her own, not including MTV Unplugged), which probably cause her to drop a few spots. However, Lauryn's versatility was incredible and she could hold her own with anybody on the mic. As the only female of the trio group The Fugees, Lauryn stood out in a major way. She could sing and rap so effortlessly.

I'm pretty sure that she could make anybody's top 15, but no less than top 20 on any list. We know that she has been going through stuff the last several years and I don't know if that really factors into anybody's decision at all, but all the same, she was a great talent and I'm sure everybody wishes we had her back.

I know it was a short one, but what do you think? Have you made a list already and is she somewhere on there? How far down do you think she would be on any list? Let me hear from you. I'm going to a Lupe Fiasco concert tonight with Asher Roth opening up for him, so I'll have footage for yall tomorrow. In the meantime, enjoy Lauryn Hill's music video for "Doo Wop (That Thing)."

Peace.
