Diddy Calls Out DJs

The link above will take you to some comments that Diddy made concerning DJs and they're roll in the current state of hip hop. Orignally, he claimed that the DJs weren't doing their jobs because they are supposed to be exposing the new talent, however, now all they're doing is playing what's hot. He then tried to explain his statements by saying that he was trying to inspire DJs to put their own touch on records like they did back in the day.
I have to say that I agree with both of Diddy's statements. I mean, when DJs are in the club, they are supposed to represent for all new up and comers that are actually taking their craft seriously. The problem is, they're job actually consits of two things. First, it is to help break in and expose new talent, but the second is what really get booked for and are supposed to do, which is to keep people's interest and keep the party going. Unfortunately, that doesn't include mixing and scratiching all night or playing records with some worthwile lyrics anymore. No longer are people trying to actually listen to a song when they're in the club. They just want to dance and could care less what's being said as long as they're feeling the beat.
Helping to expose new artists is what DJs used to do and is seperate from what they get paid to do in this day-and-age. If you aren't already getting played on the radio, 9 times out of 10 you're probably not going to get played in the club because the DJs have to play mostly what people are familiar with and if they're not familiar with it, they better make sure that the beat is on point, otherwise they're not doing their job.
It used to be that people would go to parties looking for the new music, looking for some fresh lyrics, and would still be able to party and enjoy themselves all night. That's not the case anymore. It's gotten to the point where people could care less about lyrics even when they're not in the club. With everybody adding speakers and sound systems to their car, all they wanna play is something that'll rattle they're trunk. I would assume that all of these things are factors for the DJs not being as orginal and ifluential on music as they used to be.
Those are my thoughts, what are your's? Does Diddy just need to be quiet or does he have a valid point? Let your opinion be known.
Peace.
