KRS-ONE - Is He Bashing Obama or Just Speaking the Truth?
http://blogs.sohh.com/nyc/archives/2009/02/uh-oh_krs-one_turning_america.html
After watching the video (you can click or copy & paste the link above) I have to admit that KRS has some points, but I don't agree with the degree to which he is skeptical. (For all those that may not be able to view the link, KRS-ONE gave an interview about his thoughts and feelings on Obama's Presidency and let's just say they weren't the most optimistic.) I heard an interview he did about this a while back and I wasn't sure about it then. Once again, excellent points, but I don't know if it's fair to tell people not to get caught up in the emotion. I mean, how can you expect people not to?
Now, one thing that he said in the interview that I completely agree with is that we shouldn't follow Obama mindlessly. This is completely true because we still have to hold him accountable IF he does something that either goes against what he promised or is something that we just don't agree with. However, until Obama proves that he will "continue the Bush agenda" as KRS-ONE stated, I don't see why we can't support him to the extent we have now. Of course, there were those people that voted for Obama for the sole reason that he was black, but I full heatedly belive that most people voted for him not only because he was black (which did play a role) but also because he shared the same views as we did.
We all know that as the President, no matter what color you are, there will be things that you want to do that you just can't, for a number of different reasons, but until Obama proves on a consistent basis that he is not going to stand by the statement he made by running this campaign, is it fair to assume that we are all just getting played? I have to admit that when Obama started running at the very beginning, I was a little hesitant to jump all in because I thought America was just playing with our minds, but after watching the campaign for a while, I truly believe that this is the real deal. I think that we finally have an African-American President and that he shares many of the same views we do, mainly because he's been through many of the same things as we have.
With that being said, we still need to watch him closely and hold him accountable, and we also have to know that he can not fix EVERYTHING, but until he proves us wrong, I don't see the need for all KRS is giving us (with all due respect). I am a big fan and KRS is without a doubt a scholar and well-educated individual and could probably murder me in a political battle any day, but I have to say in this amazing time, I would like to see everybody who is down with this to continue the support and for those who oppose, simply state your opinion and leave it at that. If nothing else, we can say that it did happen and let's just let the rest unfold, instead of waiting for disappointment. I can't really touch on everything he said because it would probably take all day to write, but those our my scattered thoughts.
Any thoughts? I'll try to hit yall with some real music stuff as well a little later on today, but seeing as though KRS is one of the most respected MCs of all time, I thought this would be an interesting subject to touch on. Let me know what you think.
Peace.
